Awhile back, I had this idea. I wanted to follow a mom and her baby from newborn to one year, and watch as both mom and baby grew together. We did a session when baby Will was a newborn, 4 months, 8 months and 12 months, recreating certain poses each time. Mom wore the same dress, Will had the same wrap, and the results… were absolutely magical!
Day by day, a babies growth can sometimes be hard to see. Parents don’t inspect their kids each day for physical changes, growth is not focused on the baby’s physical appearance alone. A baby’s growth is seen by parents with every new little skill they can do. How baby feels in their parent’s arm's, how they interact, how they show their love. Parents see the growth in their baby when they realize that they can now hold their little heads up in mom and dad’s arms. They see the growth when they realize their baby is interacting with them, making faces, and giving smiles. Parents notice the growth in their baby when suddenly they can carry them on their hip. It was important for me to show not just how a baby grows throughout the year, but how they grow WITH their parents.
It is absolutely incredible to me that in the span of 365 days, Will went from tiny newborn giving a fleeting smile in dads arms, to a squirmy toddler who wants to get down and play. A teeny tiny body capable of being held so snugly in dads hands became a bigger body who sprawls out, needing the support of dads hands and arms.
When you see the change of every 4 months, its not super startling, but seeing this sequence truly shows how the change sneaks up on you. Somehow that sweet little baby swaddled snugly in moms arms is the precious toddler who can now interact with mom, play games and express themselves in their own unique way.

What we’re you nervous about going into your sessions?
I was nervous about making our family's busy schedule work to to make sure all milestones were captured, but it was never an issue.
How do you feel now, after a full year of sessions?
I will cherish these moments forever! They are priceless.
Do you have a favorite image from your sessions?
The 4 images that show Will and me growing up together will always be a favorite.
Which session was your favorite?
My favorite session was the newborn session and how little and cuddly Will was. I loved getting him all swaddled and posed.

Time goes by too fast and so much changes in just a year!
A project that started at the end of 2022 and ended almost into 2024, It has been such a joy and honor to photograph this sweet family every 4 months. I enjoyed every moment!
